This is a spooky image taken out of our car window as we drove by.  (That's the door edge on the right).  The girl is smiling for my father and perhaps catches a glimpse of one of the three boys in the car but it is the mother standing behind this girl that you wonder about.  Her face dark she looks like an evil apparition.  Is that her hand coming around the child's back to ward her away?  With all that happened in this country since then you can only wonder what happened to this young girl.

I think this was the central bus station for Kabul. Hard to tell but there does seem to be some commotion down front where it looks like a crowd has gather over some dispute or other.

See all the bus passengers crammed onto the bus on the right.  Hope they're not going far.

Kabul Chevelle 1973

Somewhere downtown Kabul on our visit there in 1973.  I am not actually sure of the year but it was around this time.  Not sure who the two guys in the first car are but they look like US Government types.  I don't believe they were connected with us at all.  Notice the traffic cop on the far right.  There is something written on the top of the building left of center but I can't make it out.  That would probably identify the location.

By now you will recall that we visited Afghanistan and Pakistan sometime in the early 1970s.  I think it was 1973 but no one can really remember.  We went one morning from the hotel down into the town center where this was taken of the local camel market.  They are ungainly beasts and I recall thinking that camels have these enormous tongues.  We were offered the chance to sit on one and we did although you will have to wait to see that image!
